Variety of activities are planned for incoming students to get them used to the campus and the facilities. An IAU respresentative will meet the students at the Airport. Students are advised to provide detail travel information to the Dallas office prior to their travel.
Faculty maintains open office hours to support students. Campus facilities, such as the library and Learning Resource Center, are open for extended periods to provide quiet study areas.
Students usually arrive in St. Lucia a day or two prior to the two-day orientation which occurs on the weekend before classes begin.
In addition to being assisted with selecting the appropriate housing, students are supplied with a large amount of information from both IAU staff and local government officials. Orientation serves to help students become acquainted with, and acclimated to, living in St. Lucia and the study of medicine.
First semester students are welcomed into their clinical studies at the White Coat Ceremony.
The ceremony includes a formal cloaking of students in their white coats to signify their journey towards a medical career. Students should have a short white lab coat to put on during the ceremony.
In many ways, St. Lucia offers much that is similar to the United States.
There are supermarkets, restaurants, clubs, laundromats, public transportation, taxis, banks, and movie theatres.
Speak With Current Students
The best source to learn about living in St. Lucia is probably talking to our current students or by contacting the Student Government Association. Please feel free to email any of these students.
