January 22, 2008 1:30 PM In keeping with our commitment to community involvement in overall medical education and health care, the International American University, College of Medicine plans to observe the Health calendar proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) - at least those with strong public importance. The University hosted an interactive seminar on January 22nd 2009 in commemoration of ‘World Leprosy Day’.
The Seminar which was held in the University campus in Beanefield, Vieux-Fort saw active participation from Ministry of Health and the community. Dr. Josiah Rambally, Chief Medical Officer, delivered the opening remarks and Nurse Anne Henry, Principal Nursing Officer, addressed the 'Community Health Aspects of Leprosy'. Dr. Olusina Adesanya, District medical officer-Region 5 Primary Health Care, chaired the 'Scientific Session' of the proceedings which included presentations from students and the Dean of Basic Sciences, Dr. K. S. Ratnakar.
The Seminar imparted valuable information to participants from various government departments, police officers, community nurses, members of the public, Faculty, Students and Staff of the University, on the status of leprosy in Saint Lucia and the rest of the world.
